Get It Right In 2012
It’s the new year and many people are renewed in their determination to make a success of their music careers. There is genuine energy and focus, a take no prisoners attitude.
For many unfortunately this renewed attitude is a waste of time.
Energy and renewed focus is useless without knowledge and direction, which means those who do not aim to gain new knowledge will continue to hit their heads against the same brick walls and either become depressed, bitter or resort to extreme methods to generate fame.
There is a saying I like from a quite intelligent individual:
Insanity
Doing the same things over and over, expecting different results.
Albert Einstein
Which means, even if you do the same things with a higher intensity, you are just an intense nut job!
Many decide to improve their voice, get in the studio and write or record better songs, try and make newer, better contacts. Some aim to become versions of existing stars. (If I had a penny for every fake Rihanna, Beyonce and Gaga I have seen…gheez)
So how do you change what you are doing. How do you turn yourself, your talents, your songs into a success.
To be successful you look at the successful and copy what they do, simple! But when it is not so clear what these people have done, you do the next best thing you talk to, or research people who do know.
Having spent time as a part of and researching the music industry over the last 20 year and having interviewed and worked with some very knowledgeable and influential professionals and artists; myself and my colleagues have developed ways to stop some of you from developing a permanent case of insanity. We have created a route map laying out what you should do to generate music business success, or what most of you really want Pop Stardom.
The first and key element to any success is the first “D” of my 3D’s from the Artist Routemap, the system The Popstars Handbook is based upon.
Define
There are a few things that must be defined but the first and foremost is your Identity. When you are a successful music star people will go much further than appreciate your talent or enjoy your music….
They will want to become YOU!
You become a template for them to base their lives upon!
If you think this is a bit extreme take a look a real pop fan, if they cannot be you, they want to be with you, next to you, they would even be satisfied just to touch you. For this infatuation to occur there must be a defined identity for your potential fans to attach themselves to.
Pop fans may be irrational at times but they are not stupid, there are solid reasons for their attachment. They know exactly why they love you, because you provide them with something specific. This thing is more than music and it is routed solidly in your identity.
If your identity is routed in rebellion you will attract those wish to be rebellious or those who find the rebellious attractive. To have an effective identity it is not about what you want to be, it is about who you are.
Once you have a clear idea of who you are, (you can use the archetypes section on this site to help with this) you will discover the direction for your songs, image, marketing everything! So to avoid uncertainty in building a successful career in music start at the beginning get your identity right!
